Adam and Dog

Adam and Dog is a fantastic short film by Minkyu Lee. Centered around the story of Adam and Eve but fortunately steering away from any religious commentary the animation focuses on the bond between canine and human. There is no dialogue in the film with the sound using strong ambiance for effect, transporting the viewer into a prehistoric era with an almost zen-like quality. The animation is fairly simple reinforced by detailed painterly backgrounds that have great cinematic depth and scope. The film accesses the inner child  playing with nostalgia and innocence. It's in line for an Oscar this year as a nominee for the animated short film awards, and in my opinion a strong contender.

Keep an eye out for it as an online version isn't available for it yet...

There's also a link to the paperman movie:

You can click on it and go to the page but i couldn't get the movie to play. However here's what it says about the making of that movie:

"The way of blending the hand-drawn animation with CGI in the space of the story is the result of new tool called Meander. It is a vector based drawing program that allows and artist to manipulate every line after they’ve drawn it — something that Kahrs described as ‘just like painting on the surface of the CG.’ Or, in other words, the team modeled and animated the short, which then 2D artists took to paint over."

  2. I thought it was also humorous that Dog spelt backwards is God - was the entire film a roundabout way of exploring some thoughts on religion? (adam and eve?) I prefer it as a supremely beautiful animation about man's best friend and our relationship with creatures and the world -not so much the deity aspect.

It's interesting that there seems to be quite a few animations set in the prehistoric age -adam and dog, Ice Age, the Croods (forthcoming) quite recently. Modern issues and thoughts presented in a very juxtoposing setting -or are they ongoing issues? I don't know, just some thoughts xp

    1. Who am I? Where did I come from? Where am I going? Small questions, but worth getting animated about :)
